1. Refillable – zao  believes in the preservation of our planet, that is why it brings an innovative refill system for 65% of its products, contributing to less waste and therefore a cleaner planet. Also, the refill system, contributes to the economy of our clients, since refills cost between 20 to 45% off full case products.

 

2. Cruelty-Free –  zao is a proud pioneer of NO testing on animals. The Leaping Bunny Program provides the best assurance that no animal testing is used in any phase of product development by the company, its laboratories, or suppliers.

 

 

3. Vegan – 80% of zao  products are vegan and we are researching and working on new formulas to have 100% of our products certified as such. The Vegan Logo is a registered trademark, for products that do not contain animal products or byproducts and that have not been tested on animals. Lipgloss, liquid lipbalm, lipbalm stick and concealers are not vegan.

 

 

4. Gluten-free – 100% of zao products are certified Gluten-free. According to researchers, 20 million Americans are Gluten intolerant.

5. 100% Natural – zao products contain NO chemicals or any man made substances. All of zao ingredients are natural origin, in accordance to EcoCert and CosmeBio certifications.

6. EcoCert - ECOCERT® is one of the world’s most respected international certifications of organic products.

Founded in 1991, ECOCERT® is an independent body for organic inspection and certification which performs quality control by ensuring that all product specifications are strictly adhered to.

ECOCERT® provides high-quality global access by inspecting and certifying food products, cosmetics, detergents and textiles as authentically organic in over 80 countries around the world.

ECOCERT® organic standards provide a useful tool for consumers and professionals to judge the quality and reliability of an organic product.

ECOCERT® certifications are only given to products that maintain top quality and operate on the principle that organic farming should show high levels of respect for both the environment and the consumer.

Known for its independence, impartiality and competence, ECOCERT® is accredited by the USDA for the National Organic Program (NOP) and also approved by many countries around the world as the standard for certifying organic products as per their national regulations.

7. Cosmebio - COSMEBIO is an association of professionals in the cosmetic industry that was formed in 2002 in hopes of creating a universal charter for organic cosmetics. COSMEBIO has over 200 members worldwide, including companies in Europe, Japan, the United States, and elsewhere.

The COSMEBIO Charter consists of the following principles:

  1. Products made from natural ingredients produced primarily by organic farming
  2. No use of ingredients that are potentially harmful to human health or to the environment
  3. Products must be subjected to quality control inspections by an independent testing institute
  4. Information on the product must be easily understandable to consumers
  5. To bear the Cosmetique Bio label, products must consist of at least 95% natural or naturally-derived ingredients. 95% of the product's plant-based ingredients must be organically cultivated.

8. Campaign for safe cosmetics - The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics is a broad-based coalition, housed at the Breast Cancer Fund, working to clean up the beauty aisle through public advocacy and market campaigns designed to ;eliminate dangerous chemicals linked to cancer, reproductive harm and other adverse health impacts from cosmetics and personal care products.
